Heirlooms

I have a whole bunch of alts, and levelling has become so much easier with the changes to how much XP is needed and the XP gained seemingly been increased too. But then of course you also (if you have a level 80 already) have the opportunity to get heirlooms.

Heirlooms are awesome for when you level. You can get a pair of shoulders for 10% extra XP and a chest for another 10% extra XP. There is also a ring that you can get from the Fishing Quest on Sundays in Dragonblight (if you’re lucky!) for an additional 5%.

She looks like a warlock :/

In general though, most people end up with the shoulders and chest. There’s also trinkets and weapons to get, but those don’t provide any XP boost. Having any heirloom gear though helps you level because they level with you and their stats update, so you don’t have to worry about finding new gear as you level up.

In short, heirlooms are awesome and really makes levelling a lot easier and fun. The only thing that bothers me about them though is that they have a very specific look. Which I find a little bit sad when I’m levelling a class that the look wasn’t tailored for. As an example, the leather shoulders have a very specific rogue look – but druids would wear them too. I’ve just started levelling a mage, and I’ve discovered that she looks like a warlock because the cloth shoulders, chest AND even the staff from heirlooms all look like warlock gear.

I just wish that the heirlooms would have had a more generic look. The cloth ones could have just had a “caster” feel to them, now instead all priests and mages run around looking like warlocks when levelling. But without the cool pets!

Of course you can get the set from Wintergrasp instead (you can get heirlooms from Wintergrasp using Stone Keeper’s Shards or you can get them from the emblem vendor using Emblems of Heroism) they have more of a mage feel to them. But I have to admit that I have a lot more emblems than I do shards. (I tend to turn the shards in for the honor tokens since you can give them to any character ;) )

What are your thoughts on heirlooms? Other than that they are awesome of course. Does it ever bother you that the look is so specific so that you feel like you’re running around as a different class than the one you’re playing? Or is that a girl thing caring about looks? ;)

I like the fact that heirlooms stop your level 1-20 char from looking rubbish…cause the shoulders are the biggest cosmetic improvement it immediately makes them look kinda cool!

Plus the XP bonuses are great now

The “look” doesn’t bother me as much as the stats do. The rogue leather chest only has stamina as a stat for example. While let’s say the mail melee chest has agi, stam and intellect. At the moment I’m leveling a hunter with the leather stuff (Don’t wanna bother farming the mail stuff), and I wouldn’t have minded having some agi on it. I would have guessed rogues and feral druids needed that too. And as far as the weapons go I’m glad I got one as a hunter. It makes killing stuff so much easier.

@Lu – I agree that the XP bonuses are awesome, and if I have to look like a warlock to get them, so be it :) And yes, shoulders really make a huge difference on how cool your character looks, I still just wish I didn’t look like a warlock :P

@Nik – Yes, you’d think that a rogue chest would have had some agility on it, wouldn’t you? Especially considering that rogues are so very agility-based. As far as weapons go I have to say that on melee classes (or hunters) they make a huge difference, while on a caster it doesn’t really seem to be a big deal. Like.. 10 more spellpower.. woooh! Or.. hit like 3 times as hard with your melee swing as with a non-heirloom.. hmm what do I choose? :P
