Summer is approaching, as well as the next expansion even if we don’t know the exact date yet. There’s also Diablo 3 and other game releases. All of this, and other things, are causing a lot of guilds to cut back on raiding or possibly stop entirely.
In most previous expansions my guild’s raiding was cut short because some vital member of our raid team decided to call it quits prematurely. Usually a main tank. It was frustrating, but not much we could do about it. Recruitment can be difficult at all points of an expansion, but towards the end it’s nearly impossible. This time around though, we’ve gotten further than we had planned. We’re a casual guild and our only goal has always been to clear normal content before nerfs each tier. As we’re winding down progression, we’re stopping at 5/8 Heroic kills, which is probably the best we’ve ever done in any expansion so far.
We’ve made the decision to keep raiding for a while longer, but just for fun and only once a week for a Dragon Soul clear. People will be allowed to bring alts and we’re removing the “serious” from raiding, and the intent is just to have fun and clear the content each week for those who still want some gear. We might add some raids to old content once a week for fun as well, but it all depends on how many people keep playing as new games are released and summer finally gets here.
I know, for me, while I intend to play Diablo 3 – I will also continue playing WoW. There are some alts I’d like to gear up a bit more before the expansion, and achievements I want on my Warlock. Things that will keep me busy through the months to come before MoP.
What are your plans between now and MoP? Is your guild taking a break/winding down or do you keep going strong until the end?

D3 is really on the top of my radar, but also continue to gear up via the LFR and definitely finish out the arena season on my disc priest. Unfortunately, my guild hasn’t raided since pre-4.3 when our primary raid leader quit.
I really can’t wait to play D3. I wasn’t overly hyped about it, but then I played during the open beta weekend, and now I can’t wait!
D3 may show up on my to do list, only because there’s rumours of it showing up for my birthday next week. I’ve not played the Diablo series so time will tell.
I’m quite happy and enough keeping me busy in WoW now. I’ve almost got my Tauradin to 85 and my guild needs another healer (which I’m happy to try) for raiding. I’ve got the weekly “laid back loot/transmog runs” now going, and all the other crazy blog-related ideas I come up with. As someone still not planning to purchase Mists, I’m good to go for a while.
We have not discussed it, though I think we do need to do so. We just got our normal DW kill last week (attendance issues….for like the whole expac) so we are still needing to finish our rogue’s legendary quest, and our warlock is still working on his legendary from Firelands (and me too but I’m the step behind him still!), so we are still working on those places.
My guild is still going for it, we split the 25man into 2 10 mans and are hoping to get our madness hc kill in the next week or so. I’m purely social and occasionally jump in alt raids, or if they give up on hcs I jump in and steal gear
Don’t think we’ll wind down, may only end up with 1 raid group if we lose too many to D3, but can’t be sure yet!
We’re mainly locked in an achievement point battle… I’m trying to regain my place at the top without doing any raid achs and the other 4 who are ahead of me keep teasing me! So, I have till MoP to somehow find a way of winning again!
