What’s my name, again? (Day 7)

So, the reason behind my blog’s name.

Well, I registered the domain Spellbound long before I even started playing WoW. I’ve had the domain for close to 10 years now I suspect. Spellbound is a word I’ve always loved, don’t ask me why – and I’ve used the domain itself for many things.

It was originally my personal website, but there really wasn’t much on it other than my personal blog (which is still around, but in a different folder and not the root) and some information and photos/stories/art.

When I decided to start a WoW blog I wasn’t quite sure where I was going. I knew nothing of the WoW blogging community (I discovered it after starting the blog at which point I was awed) and was really just writing for friends.

The original name of my blog was Girls Don’t Play WoW. Not to shout out that “hai ima gurl lolz”, but rather because I always found it a rather stupid statement (since women obviously do play) – and the title on my blog was rather sarcastic/ironic.

However, as I got more used to WoW blogging and my blog wasn’t actually about women in WoW but more of a general blog, I eventually decided to change the name. Since my root domain was pretty much unused – I went for Spellbound.

I’m trying to think of what Spellbound originally was to me, but other than the tentative title of a story I was writing I can’t think of anything. It’s just one of those words that you get attached to (like ‘decadent’) – and since my main is a Warlock is seemed to suit the site rather well.

How did you choose the name for your blog?

What’s my name, again? (Day 7) — 12 Comments

  1. I never would have guessed that Spellbound wasn’t initially created because you wanted to blog about WoW. I just figured you named it as such due to you being a Warlock and all. Very neat!

  2. Oh nice background. I think that the shift from GDPW to Spellbound was a good one. While WoW still has a predominantly male player-base, the issue of gender becomes less and less to the point referencing it seems really outdated.

For the record, I like the word ‘asylum’…

  3. Hey there Saga,

Long time reader, first time commenter. In response to your question, I chose my blog title based on a classic French BDSM novel called “The Story Of O.” I have had the nickname of just “O” for years and I thought it was kind of tongue in cheek and yet reflected where I wanted to go with the blog. I wanted to write about real things in the game, like strategies and class based articles. But I also wanted to do things that were more personal to me or that could be seen as “fluff” for people who like their WoW based blogs to be more serious or have more real information pertaining to the game. So it all kind of made sense and I went from there.

I don’t know. When I see your blog, I think of the Paula Abdul album with the same name from the 80’s. I guess I’m in the minority on this one, eh?

    • *lol* Please don’t ruin Spellbound for me! ๐Ÿ˜›

The Stories of O is a nice name that lets you do a bit of everything. Spellbound to me is the same. I can write about Warlocks, but I also write about a bit of everything (as is probably evident that I do hehe)

  4. Lol @ โ€œhai ima gurl lolzโ€! ๐Ÿ˜€

My name is taken from a part of New York (Tribeca), I wanted to name her Rebecca but that was taken, which I am glad about now. Think Tribeca is a nice name for a shammy- tribal and all ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. I really like the name Spellbound.

A friend and guildie came up with name Cannot be Tamed – if I had tried to think of one myself I doubt my blog would ever have gotten off the ground, I’m so indecisive about those types of things. When I started blogging I was playing both a druid and a hunter, so I thought the name was a good reflection on both. Now that I’m no longer playing my hunter it doesnt’ fit quite so well, but I’m too attached to change it.

    • Cannot be Tamed works really well for a Druid really. Because they’re running around like feral beasts but we can’t tame them! No matter how many times my Hunter alt tries she cannot tame a druid ๐Ÿ™ I want my pet druid !

  6. Sheep the Diamond was the second name I chose for my blog. The first was “The Part-Core Gamer,” which is the idea that my blog is based on; that professionals who don’t have an endless supply of time to play but who still want a quality experience really have very few places to go. I decided against it due to the potential misinterpretation.

Sheep the Diamond came about because of a very funny story regarding a friend of mine getting completely chewed out over Vent because he did not, in fact, sheep the diamond. It was his very first raid and he was on Venoxis (I believe), who had many adds. The raid leader was a bad man with a short temper who made a fool of himself chewing out my buddy. “WHEN I SAY SHEEP THE DIAMOND YOU SHEEP THE G**D**M DIAMOND!” etc etc. Oh the hilarity of it all.

It seemed a perfect match for my temperment. A little humorous, a little personal, and directly related to WoW.

    • Hmm you weren’t in my guild were you? *lol* It’s a long standing joke that our raid leader has a short temper (though he’s getting a lot better). But sheeping the diamond probably isn’t something he’d rage over hehe

And here I thought you always sheeped the moon!

But yes, it’s a good name for a blog ๐Ÿ™‚
